Laws concerning drunkeness

Alcohol and drugs have a negative influence on the cardrive:


  • The ability to judge a situation decreases.
  • The reaction time increases.
  • The eye sight is diminished.
  • The risk of causing an accident multiplies by 12.



The Swedish laws concerning the use of alcohol in traffic are as follows: The percentage of alcohol in the blood is measured in per mille. When a driver is tested and his blood shows an alcoholic percentage of between 0,2 - 1,0 per mille it's called drunkenness, and the driver will have to pay a daily fine of a sum determined by the court. The driver's license will be confiscated for a time varying between 6 months and a year. If the alcoholic concentration exceeds 1,0 per mille it's called severe drink-driving and the driver will be sentenced to prison. This time the driver's license will be confiscated for between one year and 18 months.
