Blood Alcohol Limits

Different countries around the world have different laws and regulations, but all countries are more or less strict when it comes to driving and alcohol.

Finland allows one of the highest blood alcohol levels in the world, 0.5 permillage. When levels rise up over 1.2 permillage it is considered severe drink-driving. In Australia there are different blood alcohol limits depending on how much driving experience you have had, your age and whether or not you drive professionally. For all drivers under the age of 25, new drivers and professional drivers the blood alcohol limit is 0.02 permillage, while the limit for all the other drivers is 0.05 permillage. This system is very smart because the young drivers who often might drink a lot of alcohol and do not have a lot of experience in driving really have to watch how much they drink because just one beer is enough to take you over the limit.

In Sweden the limit for drink-driving is 0.2 permillage which is neither low nor high compared to other countries. The limit for severe drink-driving is pretty high compared to the regular limit, 1.0 permillage. If you get over this limit it is enough for you to go to jail.

In the United States the allowed blood alcohol limit is considerably low, in most states the limit is 0.1 permillage. Some of the states in the Midwest, Southeast and Northwest have a limit of 0.08 permillage.

In Europe the countries that have the most problems with driving combined with alcohol are France and The Netherlands. In these countries about every twentieth driver is drunk while in Finland only one out of five hundred drivers drive drunk.
