Activities in summertime
You can go bathing and fishing by the cottage. Go cycling around the lake Barken (30 km), there is special maps for this tour. Take the rowing boat to the opposite side of the lake. There you can row into an exiting, winding channal, (with water lilies, reed and nests that beavers has built), into another lake (Kvarnsnäs, see the map). The waterside opposite our cottage is like an archipelago, with lots of small islands. There is plenty of mushrooms, blueberries, lingonberries and raspberries in the forest nearby.
The 18-hole Hagge Golf course (20 km) by the lake Haggen is a challenge to many. There is another golf course in Fagersta (20 km). The nearest tennis court (3 courts) is in Smedjebacken.You can dance in Söderbärke Folkets park, an open-air entertainment centre/park, beautifully situated by lake Barken. KvivVeckan, Knife fair, in Ludvika in the beginning of July, has become an annual tradition. It is the largest knife competition in the Scandinavian, with exhibitions and sales.
In Leksand (100 km) there is an activity park for the whole family, Äventyr i Sommarland (Swedish link).You can visit the biggest bear park in Europe, in Orsa (170 km), Björnparken Grönklitt.

Activities in wintertime
On the lake Barken you can for example go skiing or skating. You can jig (fish). Once a week there is a jig competition. And once a year in February, in the night, you can compete in jigging burbot.
You can find the nearest slalom slope in Högbyn (Swedish link), Fagersta (20 km), with slopes that suits the family and with a quite new built snowboard park. There is steeper slopes in Smedjebacken (15 km). The distance to the recognized Romme Alpin (Swedish link), with for example 19 descents, is 40 km. Another well known ski paradise is Säfsen (80 km).
Try the Vasaloppet! Or visit the land of SantaWorld, Gesunda, Mora (145 km), it is a 110 000 m2 large park area filled with magical nature, forests, lakes and valleys.
You can rent the room for relaxation in Vanbo Herrgård, with sauna, jacuzzi and poole. Or go for a walk by the lake Barken. Go visiting the Swedish brewery Spendrups in Grängesberg (37 km). There is guided tours of the brewery, and you can study the culture of beer-drinking. In Grängesberg you can also try go-cart. Bet on horses at Romme Trottingtrack (50 km).
