Reykjavik

My first day in Rekjavik was a sunday. A good day for walking. During a day, you are able to see many of Reykajvik´s sights. The Cathedral and the National museum were unfortunately closed due to redecorating. After many hours of walking, I recommend a visit to a public bath. Hot water in outdoor pools - very relaxing!

If you want to see more photos of Reykjavik - please go forward to "Compare stamp/photo 1".

These two photos are taken from the tower of Hallgrim´s church. To the left, you can see Skolavördurstigur leading down to the harbour of Reykjavik. To the right, you can see the lake Tjörn. Wooper swans could be seen there.

Hallgrim´s church with its 75 meter high tower. Arcitecture reminding of basalt. The church is situated on the top of a hill, from where you get a nice view over the city.

"The Pearl"- A rotating restaurant on top of the the hot-water reservoir, supplying the city with heat.

During your walk around the city, you can see small houses reminding of Swedish ones. Swedish houses are often made of pine wood. Icelandic houses often have painted corrugated metal as wall material. To the right you can see a ship with Vikings at the shore of "Smoky bay".
