Assumption's Church


An outstanding work of Baroque erected on the place of a former Gothic temple in 1728-34 (arch. A.J Jentsch, perhapsafter designs of K.J Dientzenhofer), till 1810 an in 1924-45. The Abbey Church, Besides a parish one; an aisleless construction (80 m long, 29 m broad and 25 m high nave) with a transept (49 m broad) and two towers (70 m high). The front entrance decorated with several stone figures (F.M Brokoff, A. Dorasil) up to 8 m high. Inside; big vault frescoes (W. Neunhertz) rowed along the nave to the chancel and illustrating the God's attribute after the Isaiah's prophecy: (Admirabilis= The Admirable, Consiliarius = The Adviser, Deus = The God, Fortis = The powerful, Pater futuri saeculi = The Eternal Father, Princeps pacis = The Peace Prince); high altar (1738, A Dorasil). With the "Assumption" picture 1731 - 32, P. Brandl) and the miraculous picture of virgin Mary with the Christ-Child (the 13th c., Byzantine school) over the tabernacle; in the chancel splendid stalls (1735, A Dorasil after designs by F.M Brokoff) with sculptured groups of apostles (under the Christ's cross). Prophetes (under the copper serpent). Martyrs (under a palm-tree) and Saints (unter the Pope cross; in the left arm of the transept the holy Sacrament altar with the "Christ's family-tree" picture having on both sides the other pictures- "Twelve Prophetes" and "Twelve Sibylles" (all by M.L Willmann 1678). In the right arm of transept the altar (1744), with a glass herma containing the Christ-Child sculpture called "The Emmanuel of Krzeszów"; behind the door at the left transept edge the Loretan Chapel with a sculpture of Our Lady of Loreto (1676, G. Schröt-ter), and a beautiful wrought-iron-grid;

Magnificent organs (1733-36, M. Engler) with 2606 pipes, 52 registers and 3 manuals; near the entrance two impressive sculptures of angels with holy-water-basins (about 1750, A. Dorasil).

Mausoleum of Piastic Counts of Swidnica and Jawor

Two-rotunded building adhering to the Assumption's Church erected in 1735-38 (surely by A.J. Jentsch). Decorated with colorful marble-stucco (1736, I.A. Provisore), under the full renovation nowadays. Inside among others: a monumental sarcophagus with mortal remains of Piastic Counts of
